In 1953 the Pacific off Redondo Beach was cold enough to end a session early. Two brothers cut neoprene into a suit that let them stay in the water, and a California institution began with a practical problem solved well.
Seven decades later the same instinct governs the line: garments made for people who are actually in the water, refined by the culture that grew around them — surf, dive, lifeguard towers, the long South Bay summer.
